John Ridley is an American writer and director. He was born on October 1965 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. He started his professionl career as a writer, when he wrote the TV series Martin in 1993. In 1997 he made his first debut in film industry as a writer and write the film U Turn. In 1999 he wrote the film Three Kings for which he won the Southeastern Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Screenplay and two other award nominations. In 2003 he made his directional debut in the TV show Platinum. In 2005 he wrote The Wanda Sykes Show. In 2013 he wrote the film 12 Years a Slave for which he won several awards and nominations including: African-American Film Critics Association Award for Best Screenplay, Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
